This project aims at accelerating the repair of sidewalks that represent tripping and falling hazards for seniors caused by sidewalks that are lifted, cracked, blocked, or otherwise damaged. Unsafe sidewalks are a hazard and a deterrent to walking by residents of all ages, not just seniors.

The Age-Friendly Task Force under the leadership of Vince Siminitus developed a map showing where seniors are most likely to be walking.

The map was provided to the Public Works Department which is incorporating it in its larger effort to assess and improve sidewalk safety in San Mateo.

It is also being used by the Police Department in its enforcement of sidewalk parking restrictions.
